Daybed from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main by Ferdinand Kramer. Made as a small series exclusively for the professors' rooms around 1952.
I think it was an extremely kind gesture towards the professors at the university to give them the opportunity to relax on the daybed after a long and tiring day.
It comes from the interior of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. It is characterised by an upholstered wooden frame construction and a dark grey upholstered fabric.
The piece of furniture is labelled with a Goethe University inventory label and measures approx. 41 cm in height, 200 cm in length and 80 cm in depth.
The sofa was designed by Ferdinand Kramer, who as the university's construction director from 1952 planned a total of 23 buildings and was responsible for the interior design (see Ferdinand Kramer, p. 236; Designgeschichte ausstellen, p. 4).
Provenance:
Formerly part of the furnishings of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt am Main.
The daybed is in its unrestored original condition directly from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University and shows corresponding signs of use. A new cover is recommended, but is easy and uncomplicated to carry out due to the simple construction.
