Togo, designed by Michel Ducaroy in 1973
Stool in Alcantara Curry
The design is already 50 years old, but it is as modern as ever. Togo from Ligne Roset is a true design classic!
A sofa from a single mould, a play on elementary shapes, simple and refined at the same time, for a casual, informal lifestyle.
The low seat height (which you have to like) and the trough-shaped seat and backrest invite you to relax. This comfortable classic has been on the road to success since the seventies. Its designer Michel Ducaroy has turned TOGO into a seating landscape of unlimited possibilities.
Designer: Michel Ducaroy
Michel Ducaroy redefined the sofa. His philosophy? Freedom, softness, coziness.
Ducaroy came from a family of furniture designers and was educated at the renowned Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Lyon. He started working at Roset early in his career, a company that grew rapidly. With a talented team of marketing and technical experts, he led research and development.
In the 60s and 70s, when new materials like foam and heat-treated plastics emerged, Ducaroy designed popular seating such as Adria, Koufra, and Kali. His major breakthrough came in 1973 with the Togo sofa. Initially met with skepticism, Ducaroy received the René-Gabriel Prize for his innovative design.
The Togo sofa became iconic: a masterpiece made entirely of foam, inviting relaxation with its low seat height and contoured surfaces. It embodies a casual, laid-back lifestyle and offers endless possibilities.
Ducaroy retired in 1986 and passed away in 2009 in Lyon, not living to see the 40th anniversary of his classic design.
Structure: Foam base made of various densities of perfectly matched polyether foams.
