Philippe Starck originally designed the Costes armchair in 1985 for the café of the renowned Hotel Costes in Paris.

With his innovative mix of postmodernism and art deco, Philippe Starck was in tune with the times and his first furniture designs were characterised by this. The famous Costes armchair marked the beginning of a long and successful collaboration between Philippe Starck and Driade, which has now lasted a quarter of a century.

Black lacquered tubular steel forms the frame of the Costes armchair. The curved plywood backrest is perforated at the top and painted black. The 47 cm high seat is covered with a hard-wearing black leather cover, which lies on a comfortable polyurethane foam cushion core.
